Faith Comes By Hearing

Faith comes by hearing, not by seeing. Jesus does not just appear to people out of nowhere, like a dream or vision. A person has to hear the Gospel through the Word of God first before they can ever know how to be saved. Jesus is the Word. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Jesus speaks to a person's heart about trusting him for salvation by His Word. He doesn't make lightening strike and then all of a sudden we are saved. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Jesus doesn't call on Christians to be silent. He tells us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He didn't say to go all over the world being kind to people, then people will come to you and want to know how to be saved. There are millions of people in the world who are kind to people and help people who are not born-again Christians. Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
Ephesians 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.
Ephesians 6:20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

The Gospel is something you hear, not something you see in the way a person lives. Sure, if someone is nice and shows concern and compassion for people, that makes it easier for people to want to hear the Gospel message, but they silll need to hear the Gospel to know how to be saved. Many people have turned over a new leaf, cleaned up their life from drinking, etc., but that doesn't mean they are a Christian. If they have never put their trust in Jesus as their saviour and believed in His death, burial, and resurrection, then they are just as lost as any other unregenerate sinner.

There is only one way to Heaven, and that is by hearing the Gospel and believing the Gospel. The Gospel is the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus as recorded in His Word. Mark 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Anyone can be saved at any moment.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:13 Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Open The Door and Enter In

Some people think the way to Heaven is to walk the straight and narrow way, to be a follower of Jesus, to stay on the right path, live a certain way, and endure to the end. Truly, that is not the way to Heaven at all, and will actually take you to hell if that is what you believe. Jesus didn't come to put us in a position to be saved, as though it is partly Him and partly what we do ourselves to stay saved. No, He came to save us completely. He paid for our salvation in full when He died on the cross and rose again three days later, and salvation is free to anyone who will accept it by faith. It is not by walking the narrow way, but by entering in through the gate, opening the door, (being born again), and receiving the gift of eternal life. Notice, that the gift is "eternal life". If we have to do something to keep our salvation, then it wasn't eternal because eternal means forever. If it's forever, that means you can never lose it. God said it, and God cannot lie. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat.

John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out and find pasture.

Could it be any clearer that salvation is by entering in, opening the door, not by staying on some type of path. You admit you are a sinner, trust Jesus with your heart to save you, and you are saved right then and there. Once you open the door, you're in forever. It's just like when Noah and his family entered the arc before the flood. Salvation is instantaneous. One minute you're lost and on your way to hell, and then the next minute, as soon as you trust Jesus with your heart, you are a child of God and on your way to Heaven. It is not some sort of process where you have to stay on the right path, follow Jesus, etc. It's the moment you open the door and let Jesus save you. Remember, "eternal life," is forever, and Jesus paid it all.
