Are We All God's Children

Sometimes at funerals you will hear a minister say something like, "We are all God's children, "insinuating that all you have to do to be one of God's children is just to be a person born into this world.  However, nothing could be further from the truth.  It is true that God created every person in their mother's womb, but that does not make them one of God's children.  There is a big difference, as it says in John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (Speaking of Jesus).  This verse makes it clear that we are not just automatically his child because we are a human being, but we become his child by receiving Christ.

Another portion of scripture that makes it clear that not all people are God's children is found in John 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do.  He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.  When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:45: And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

People don't want to believe the truth about some people being a child of God and some people being a child of the devil, but it is still true whether you believe it or not.  God's word says it and his word is true, He cannot lie.  They deceive themselves into thinking they are okay because they are just like most the other people in the world, so they would rather believe the lie of Satan, rather than to believe
God's word.

God loves every person ever born and wants them to become his child, as it says in II Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

God wants you to become his child by trusting in the name of his Son that he sent to die for you.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17: For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.
18: He that believeth on him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

These verses prove and make it very clear that God loves you and wants to save you, but you must of your own free will accept Jesus and receive him.  God will not force anyone to trust in Christ,  though he is eager and willing to save anyone who will.  In John 3:16 where it says whosoever, you may put your name right there and receive the gift of salvation that God freely offers.

Revelation 22:17: And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.  And let him that heareth say, Come.  And let him that is athirst come.  And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

The promise of eternal life is to whosoever will come and receive it by faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.,  Not of works, lest any man should boast.
